Sydney Marathon 2025: Hailemaryam Kiros wins elite race; Eliud Kipchoge is ninth

Hailemaryam Kiros Kebedew of Ethiopia and Paris 2024 gold medallist Sifan Hassan won the men’s and women’s Sydney Marathon 2025 on Sunday (31 August), respectively. Both Kiros and Hassan clocked course records of 2:06:06 and 2:18:22 in the newest addition of the World Marathon Majors. Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge began fading at the 33km-mark as the 40-year-old Kenyan scraped into the top 10, coming home ninth in 2:08:31.

This is first Marathon Major victory for Hailemaryam Kiros Kebedew.
